Want to feel less tired and increase energy levels?

Most people feel a lack on energy as we head into winter and light levels fade. I’ve found that changing a few simple things in my life can really make the difference between feeling tired and lethargic, or full of life. If you want to find out how you can get more energy, keep reading.

Fuel yourself for success

I nearly put petrol in my Diesel car last week. I had the nozzle in the fuel tank and everything but luckily realised before I pulled the trigger. Imagine the consequences if I hadn’t noticed?

Your body is exactly the same. Put the wrong fuel in and you’ll be sputtering and gasping for energy all day.

To make sure you have more energy, keep your diet rich in energy boosting foods, and I don’t mean sweets and chemical laden energy drinks!

Whole foods and proteins are designed to power your body not sugar and carbs. Both whole foods and proteins take longer to breakdown so they give you more sustained energy throughout the day. I love my morning smoothie made with Arbonne protein powder and fresh greens and berries. They taste delicious, fill me up and ensure I have energy that takes me right through until lunchtime. As a family we all love them. Imagine finding one breakfast which suits the whole family and energises you all. Amazing.

Arbonne’s new Protein Boost is another great product to add to hot and cold dishes at any time of the day. It’s a pure plant based protein with no additives, sugar or carbs and it’s vegan too. It makes a great addition to a smoothie but I love it in Porridge and vegetable chilli to help increase energy levels.

Ditch unhealthy energy drinks

Those energy drinks full of sugar and chemicals are doing nothing for your overall health. It’s far better to opt for a more natural plant or herb based solution. A cup of green tea is more energising than a coffee especially if you add milk and sugar to your coffee. I love chilled green tea with a squeeze of lemon juice or a drop of vanilla essence. Or opt for a drink containing the herb ginseng. Arbonne Energy Fizz Sticks are my go to product. I simply add them to a glass of filtered water and give them a stir and I know I’ve got about four hours of energy under my belt. They are a mix of B Vitamins, ginseng and natural caffeine from green tea and guarana root.

Rethink your drink

Many of us are tired and lethargic not because we are exhausted but because we are dehydrated. Make sure you drink a mixture of plain water (not fizzy) and herbal teas throughout the day to increase energy levels. I aim to drink a minimum of two litres of water a day and have a fab water bottle on my desk with clear marks indicating how much I’ve drank. It makes me compete with myself so that if I’m not a third of the way down by 10am I know I’m behind. Once you get used to this quantity of water you’ll notice you don’t go to the loo quite so much either which simply means your body is absorbing water more efficiently.

Move about more

We all know it’s true – the more you exercise the more energy you have. Not only does it release endorphins that make you feel happier and more positive but it ensures your body is working efficiently too.

To maintain energy levels daily, make sure you get up from your desk at least once an hour, stretch and take a walk before you sit back down. Your mind and focus will be improved along with your eyesight and body. If you have a FitBit or an app on your phone aim to get your steps up to 10,000 a day. You could try a walk with a colleague at lunchtime or have a meeting or phone call while walking around rather than sitting down.

Sun Sun Sun

At this time of year when light levels are low I used to really feel the blues. Then I invested in a SAD daylight lamp. It emits medially approved light therapy and is a convenient and effective way to make up for low light levels and get more energy. Ideally you need a lamp which emits up to 10,000 LUX to simulate natural daylight. You can get them for any room in the house (although they are still quite ugly looking). Just switching them on for a few hours a day can make all the difference and increase energy levels.

Without exposure to the sun our bodies struggle to create Vitamin D too. This sunshine vitamin is tied to many benefits including bone health and immune function. Ensuring you get enough through a good supplement is essential and will ensure you feel energetic and healthy.

While I get some vitamin D from my daily shake on top of this I also take the Arbonne Powerpacks for women and regularly use the vitamin D spray. It tastes delicious and feels like a sweet treat too!
