Most people overindulged in December, right?

Although we didn’t have a tin of Quality Street there was certainly more chocolate and other sweet treats brought into the house over the Christmas weekend than I would normally get through in a month!

For me January is a great time to detox. This year my health goal is to lose the excess around my middle which has built up over Christmas.

Detoxing is a great way of kick starting a healthy eating lifestyle. Diets don’t work, but detoxing, and getting into eating healthy, wholefoods, cooking from scratch and ensuring you get some regular exercise really does. My focus is on overall wellness and everyone can benefit from a healthy detox and cleanse programme while increasing nutrient uptake. My tips can be part of a lifestyle plan no matter what your age, shape size or athletic build is!

As you begin to detoxify and transition away from addictive foods, stored toxins in your body are released ready for removal so you may feel worse for a short period. I think day four of a detox is often when it hits you hardest but bear with it. The end result is often:

  • Better sleep
  • Clearer skin
  • Stubborn cellulite diminished
  • Unwanted weight gone
  • Less headaches
  • More energy and vitality
  • Less aches and pains
  • Better bowel health
  • Improved mental clarity
  • Less inflammation

Here’s my tips for detoxing:

In addition to eating whole, nutrient dense foods, eliminating allergenic and inflammatory foods and hormone balanced eating, I also incorporate nutritional supplements into my detox. These simplify and amplify results.

I recommend these products as they are pure, safe and highly effective with our eating plan. The products (which are all vegan certified, gluten free, dairy free, soy free with no artificial flavours or sweeteners) provide convenient support to eating an allergenic free, whole foods diet that works to bring you to a more alkaline state. Protein shakes, fibre supplements, vitamins, and detoxification teas support the body get to its optimal working state. They also give the digestive system time to rest and provide essential nutrients allowing it to get back to a fully functioning state.

Remove the known allergens from your diet.

Many of us have food intolerances which are limiting our health. The major food allergens we work with you to cut out are:

  • Wheat and Gluten
  • Dairy
  • Caffeine
  • Sugar
  • Alcohol

We also limit or cut out entirely artificial colours, flavours and presentative and processed foods.

Once your body gets used to living without a food group it is much easier to understand if you have an intolerance to it by re-introducing each food one at a time. Funnily enough it’s often the foods we crave that we are most susceptible to! 

By removing these known allergens from your diet you enable your body to rid itself of stored toxins which are often held in fat cells. This in turn allows the fat to be eliminated so it’s a win-win.

Up your fluid intake

Ensuring you drink enough water each day is key to optimum health. I aim to drink at least two litres a day. For me that is a combination of plain filtered water, herbal tea and an Arbonne Fizz Stick.

These little sachets of energy temporarily help to promote alertness and enhance cognitive performance especially when you start to feel tired. Arbonne’s proprietary blend of antioxidants also contains guana to support energy while providing a source of caffeine, Chromium which promotes healthy blood sugar levels already and green tea with cadakins (antioxidants) to help fight and prevent damage on a cellular level. Tourine, an amino acid, which encourages energy, ginseng which supports physical activity and B vitamins also help metabolise carbohydrates, fats and proteins plus much more.

Eat healthy wholefoods and reduce processed foods and additives

Not only will switching to a wholefoods diet help you to detox and lose weight but it will energise you, ensure you don’t feel hungry and probably reduce your food bill too! My philosophy is, if it comes from a plant or is grown I eat it. If it’s made in a plant I don’t!

Maintaining blood sugar

Sugar and its unlimited consumption is a big issue facing populations across the globe. By reducing refined sugars and eating wholefoods you can get your blood sugar back to normal levels and ensure it stays consistent throughout the day. Avoiding those peaks and troughs after a fizzy drink, a coffee, a sweet cake or biscuit will also help you sleep better and will reduce sugar induced headaches.

In order to further balance my blood sugar I add an Arbonne Protein shakes to my daily routine. Each shake provides 20g of easy to digest vegan protein. This has a full amino acid score which is comparable to protein from meat sources and 20 vitamins and minerals including Vitamin E and magnesium to support overall health and wellbeing.

It can be blended with fruits and vegetables so I love to make a breakfast smoothie to kick start my day. It’s really easily digestible and promotes that feeling of fullness so you won’t want to snack on the bad stuff throughout the day. 

Maintaining a healthy gut
